It’s not too late
for a little bit of New Year Magic……
You don’t have to be a witch or wizard to perform this simple orange flower charm which is performed in Lennox Story.
What you will need is:
- An item of orange clothing
- An orange flowering plant
- A clove of garlic (wild or cultivated)
- Piece of paper or parchment
- Pencil or pen
If you do not have a garden in which to plant your flower then you will need a pot
Perform your spell:
- Put on your orange clothing – anything item of clothing will suffice e.g. socks, blouse, scarf.
- Wearing your orange clothing, dig up an orange countryside plant or go to the garden centre to buy one. Do not use a plant from your own garden; make sure your flower is new to your garden or patio. Any specie of plant will do as long as it is orange e.g. marigold, pansy, montbretia, poppy.
- Write your wish on your piece of paper or parchment.
- Wrap the paper/parchment on which you have written your wish around the clove of garlic.
- Place the garlic wrapped in your written wish in the hole/pot where you are going to plant your flower.
- Plant your orange flowering plant in your garden or in a pot above the clove of garlic.
- Wish hard for what you hope for.
As your plant flowers then you wish will be fulfilled

Each month Daisy Bourne presents an ancient charm updated for modern day living. It isn’t usual to perform a spell for someone else but healing is different so you can perform this bit of May Magic for yourself or for someone else:………….
What you will need is:
- A white or pink candle
- A candle holder
- A photo or picture of the person to be healed
- Mint leaves
- A sharp instrument e.g. knife
- Sprigs of rosemary (optional)
- Rose essential oil (optional)
- Rose quartz (optional)
Perform your spell:
- Scratch the name of the person you wish to heal on the candle with a sharp instrument e.g. knife.
- “Charge” the candle – this is done by holding the candle and wishing to heal the person concerned. If you normally pray for someone pray now. Put all your energy into the wish.
n.b. Some skilled spell weavers will first rub essential oil e.g. rose oil into the candle but if you are not used to handling essential oils and do not know how to dilute the oil then it is best to use the candle as it is. The important thing is scratching the name into the candle and charging it with your wishes.
- Place the candle in the candle holder on top of the photo/picture.
- Sprinkle mint leaves around the photo.
- Add rosemary if you wish (optional).
- Place a piece of rose quartz near the photo (optional).
- Light Your candle and let it burn
A full moon is usually the best time to perform a spell but you can perform this charm at any time.
Let the candle burn out on its own. Do not blow it out or you may blow away your wish. When the candle is burnt out bury it and the mint and rosemary in the garden. Alternatively you may place the some of the leaves in the picture frame with the photo.

I bought this book for my grandchildren but read it first. It had me absorbed right to the end. It is well written and I loved how the story was fast paced and action packed from the offset. The characters are well fleshed out and lovable. The plot is believable and very easy to follow so it is a suitable read for children/teens (as well as adults). I like the use of tension and suspense in the story. As Alex and Donna begin their investigation we meet a host of secondary characters that are just a likeable and well developed as the main characters. This is an area where shorter novels like this one can fall down but Tessa Buckley has obviously carefully thought through every aspect of this novel.
Alex and Donna seems to uncover several things about the alleged dog-
I also liked seeing more of their relationship with their father during their parents evening, and how the twins are curious about their absent mother -
I liked following the father's story line and how he struggles making money to support his family and he turns down an great opportunity because he won't get the money or recognition he feels he deserves and I sympathise with him because he worked extremely hard on his project which, if successful, he hopes will give him a career and support his family.
The children dig deeper for information about their mother and find out she is still alive. The story of how they find Kiki the missing dog, and find out their mother's identity, is brought together very cleverly.
And, no, I never guessed the ending.
